It’s time to head back into the classroom for more than one million students across Victoria and those in the north have five new schools to choose from.
Across the state 12 new schools will open for Term 1 with five of those based in the growing northern suburbs of Wollert, Donnybrook, Craigieburn, and Mickleham.
One of those new schools is Mickleham Secondary College which Kalkallo MP Ros Spence and education minister Natalie Hutchins opened on Monday 30 January.
Ms Spence said the new school would give local secondary students the opportunity to study closer to home.
“This is the first secondary school in the growing outer northern suburbs of Mickleham and Kalkallo,“ she said.
“We’re making sure that all students in Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs have the best spaces to learn and every child is given an opportunity to succeed.”
Mickleham Secondary College is currently in its first stage and has capacity for 800 students. Once complete the school will accommodate 1200 students.
The college has science and technology buildings, a community hub, and a competition grade basketball and netball court.
Education minister Natalie Hutchins said her government has invested a record amount in school infrastructure and support for teachers.
“More students than ever have the facilities and first-class education they deserve,“ she said.
“I’d like to wish every student returning to school this week the best of luck – it’s an exciting time filled with new friends, learning and experiences that shape you forever.”
The 12 new schools across the state are part of the government’s $12.8 billion pledge to build 100 schools by 2026
Other new schools include Barrawang Primary School, Donnybrook Primary School, Karwan Primary School, Kurrun Primary School, Lollypop Creek Primary, Ngarri Primary School, Nearnung Primary School, Quarters Primary School, Thornhill Park Primary School, Wayi School, and Wollert Secondary College.
