Ronald Reed has fond memories of dinner dances and the era of ballroom dancing in halls across the country.
Last Friday, the Arcare Epping aged care centre resident was transported back to his heyday of the 1940s at a special dinner dance held in Craigieburn.
About 90 residents from Arcare’s centres at Epping, Craigieburn, Hillside, Maidstone, Sydenham and Burnside came along for the dance at Craigieburn’s Newbury Child and Community Centre.
Mr Reed, who taught ballroom dancing in the 1940s, thought the event was a good chance for residents to socialise.
He said he loved the freedom and variety of ballroom dancing, however the foxtrot was his favourite.
“I like dancing because I move with the lightness of air and glide across the floor,” Mr Reed said. “My dancing days are mostly behind me now though.”
Arcare Epping lifestyle co-ordinator Sue Musico said the event was a chance for residents to share memories of their dancing days.
“A lot of our residents love dancing, and met their partners at dance halls,” she said.
“Music is great for the soul. It makes you happy.”
