Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged stabbing at a Broadmeadows supermarket last night.

Police were called to the Pascoe Vale Road store after reports of a brawl between approximately 10-15 youths about 6.20pm.

A 16-year-old Dallas boy was located with an alleged stab wound to the upper body, and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Superintendent Peter Lardner said the boy’s condition has since improved, and is no longer life-threatening.

Superintendent Lardner said a video circling social media of the aftermath of the alleged stabbing showed “heartening” behaviour from the Broadmeadows community.

“Members of the public, who didn’t know this youth at all, have actually gone to his aid,” he said.

“[They] provided a really high level of care and comfort to him at that time.

“It may very well be that the level of assistance they provided to him at that point in a first aid perspective, actually helped save his life.”

Six teenagers were arrested at the scene, including a 13-year-old Dallas boy, a 14-year-old Dallas boy, a 15-year-old Dallas boy, a 13-year-old Coolaroo boy, a 14-year-old Broadmeadows boy, and a 16-year-old Broadmeadows boy.

All were issued with a caution notice in relation to the affray.

Hume Crime Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the alleged stabbing.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to contact the police.
