Aitken College’s musical will rock you

It’s been twenty years since the first Aitken College musical was staged, with students now in the final days of rehearsals for their rendition of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’.

Fast forward to 2022 and there are now 55 secondary school students, along with some primary school pupils on stage, together with more than 20 students and staff in the band and backstage.

Leading the cast will be year 12 student Makenzie Hall as Galileo Figaro, the rebel dreamer who hears song lyrics in his head and seeks to spread the word amongst the Bohemians about the power of rock.

The show is set 300 years into the future, Earth has been renamed iPlanet and is ruled by the sinister Killer Queen, played by year 12 student Sophie Cole.

Galileo enlists the help of the Bohemians in particular a girl he names, Scaramouche (played by year 11 student Jasmine Edgar) to uncover a piece of rock’n’roll history, Brian May’s legendary guitar, hidden in the remains of London’s Wembley Stadium.

Aitken College principal Josie Crisara said the musical allowed students the opportunity to explore extracurricular activities.

“The College musical is a key calendar event and an important part of developing our school culture. It sees the growth of students in many different areas of the shows’ productions, enhancing their learning beyond the formal curriculum.”

There are five performances commencing on July 22, including two matinee performances.
