Riding for charity

Doreen resident Hayley Tuck hadn’t ridden a bicycle for almost 20 years when she helped out on a charity ride from Torquay to Adelaide last year.

But after watching a woman who walked with a cane complete the 840km ride, the mother-of-one thought she had no excuse not to try this year.

“I’m really excited to be doing something that is probably the biggest physical challenge of my life – short of giving birth,” Ms Tuck said.

For the past few months, Ms Tuck has been training three to four times a week for the ride, fitting in training around her three-year-old daughter’s schedule.

“I leave some mornings around 5.30am and train for three hours to get back home just as she’s waking up,” she said.

The ride will raise money for the Herbalife Family Foundation, which helps charities provide healthy food and accommodation to children in need.

Ms Tuck said she was “a bit nervous” to embark on the gruelling six day ride starting tomorrow, January 9, but she was well prepared for the ride.

Fellow Doreen resident David Biondo will also take part in the charity ride.

Donations can be made from the CASA HFF Cycle to Adelaide Facebook page, until the ride finishes on January 14.
