A P-plate driver has been caught travelling 90km/h over the speed limit in South Morang.
Highway Patrol officers observed a red VW Golf GTI travelling south between Hawkstowe Parade and The Lakes Boulevard about 11:45pm.
The vehicle, driven by a probationary driver with two passengers onboard, was detected travelling at 170km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The vehicle was impounded at a cost of $895 for 30 days.
The 18-year-old South Morang man will be charged on summons to attend the Heidelberg Magistrates Court at a later date.
