50 people arrested in Epping as part of covert police operation

Fifty people have been arrested in Epping in the past two weeks as part of a police blitz at the suburb’s main shopping precinct.

Since the start of October, police have been running a covert operation in the shopping precinct on High Street in a bid to improve community safety.

The operation resulted in arrests for theft and shoplifting.

Senior-Sergeant Adrian Brilliant said Epping police would continue to focus on the shopping precinct.

“There are numerous benefits to running these operations, which see police dedicate an influx of police resources over a sustained period,” he said.

“In addition to catching offenders, police are also able to ensure public order is maintained and build and intelligence picture which will assist our efforts into the future.

“We’ll continue to run a number of covert operations in the area, so you never know when police might be present.”
