Bundoora-based charity Big Group Hug is an organisation serving local communities to tackle child poverty.
Dedicated supporter of the charity Stavros is embarking on a mission to raise much needed funds. Stavros will be running a half marathon (21km) every four hours for 48 hours.
The 252km run will take place from Monday, June 26 to Wednesday, June 28, including running through the night.
The run aims to raise awareness and funds for essential items for struggling families such as clothing, formula, cots, prams, car seats and toiletries for newborns to 16-year-olds.
Stavros is asking friends, colleagues and the running community to join him by also signing up and fundraising for Big Group Hug.
Stavros said that this type of running is not for everyone.
“For me it’s meditative, empowering and refreshing. And that combined with fundraising to support families doing it tough is an incredible feeling!” he said
Manager of fundraising and communications Maria Quigley said she is appreciative of the work Stavros is doing.
“It’s the community’s support that enables us to help thousands of children every year,” she said.
The first run on Monday morning will finish at the Big Group Hug hub in Airport West where Stavros’ arrival will be live-streamed.
