Improved town bus services, sports reserve lighting, Men’s Shed upgrades and environmental programs were among state election pledges made by the major parties in Sunbury and Macedon last week.
Labor has promised a long-awaited weekday bus service in Woodend and additional services from Rolling Meadows to Sunbury train station as part of a $100 million statewide upgrade.
Macedon ALP candidate Mary-Anne Thomas said councils and communities would also be given a stronger voice in bus network planning.
In Sunbury, Boardman Reserve could host night games and more training sessions if the Coalition wins.
Liberal candidate Jo Hagan promised $50,000 for upgrades to the oval and the federal government has committed $150,000 for new lights which would be used only during training.
Ms Hagan also promised $30,000 for a Men’s Shed in Diggers Rest, while Macedon Liberal candidate Donna Petrovich pledged the same amount for extensions to Riddells Creek Men’s Shed.
Macedon and Sunbury groups would receive $355,000 as part of Landcare programs promised by the Liberal Party.
Meanwhile, Sunbury resident Trevor Dance, who is standing for Palmer United in the upper house, was last week appointed the party’s candidate to represent Victoria.
