Craigieburn mum’s Congo Rock: A kids’ book that really rocks

Craigieburn mum and primary school teacher Janine Ashley has seen her dream come true – her name is on the cover of a book.

From imaginings penned for her children’s bedtime and inspired by a love of reading and discovery of other lands and peoples, Congo Rock has emerged in print, brought to life by Kingsville publisher Aly Walsh.

It’s the story of a rock ’n’ roll gorilla and his band of chimpanzees.

“It’s a fantastic tale, incorporating rhythm and music to get the little ones clapping and dancing along to the story,” Ms Walsh said.

Feedback so far is inspiring her to consider an audio version.

“I wrote it as a rhyming book and everyone kept saying we can almost sing it,” she said.

Congo Rock will be launched at Craigieburn’s Willmott Primary School later this term.
