Roxburgh Park brawl: Police seek witnesses

UPDATE: Detectives from the Hume criminal investigation unit are appealing for help from witnesses to a violent brawl in Roxburgh Park last week.

The detectives said two cars pulled up in front of a private house in Mackellar Drive in the early hours of Thursday. The house occupants went outside to meet the visitors and a bloody scuffle ensued. The two groups of people were known to each other but were not members of the same family, police said.

Detective Sergeant Peter Griffiths appealed for witnesses with images on their mobile phones or security cameras to come forward.

The fight involved men and women aged between 17 and 64. Some were using metal star picket poles as weapons and inflicted serious bodily damage.

Ambulance Victoria received a call just before 1am. Spokeswoman Grace Keyworth said two men were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, one with serious head injures, the other with head and chest wounds.

A woman in her late teens was taken to the Austin Hospital with abdomen injuries. A man in his 30s was taken to the Alfred with head injuries and two men were treated at the Northern Hospital with head and chest injuries.

Three cars were also damaged.

Police arrested 12 people.

Craigieburn senior sergeant Phil Nash said their focus had been on speaking to neighbours and reassuring them the fight was between two parties and not connected to an incident in Endeavour Hills in which an 18-year-old man carrying knives was killed by police.
