Young Whittlesea actors thrive on answering the unasked

A new production, Thanks For Asking, by Whittlesea’s First Impressions Youth Theatre, promises to confront and amuse audiences this month.

A dozen young people will take the stage this weekend to answer questions they’ve never been asked but have always wanted to answer.

Artistic director Martin White said some responses would be “abstract and some mediocre”, but the performance was all “natural”.

“Youth theatre groups don’t all that often ask artists to use their own words,” Martin said.

“The content has been extraordinary. It’s exciting to be working with the natural character and heightening that.”

First Impressions Youth Theatre is a free program offered by Whittlesea council to people aged 12 to 30 who live in, attend school, work or are connected to the municipality.

The group meets weekly to generate and perform original work that explores youth issues and concerns.

Thanks For Asking will be staged at 7.30pm on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26, at Epping Memorial Hall, 827 High Street, Epping.
