Wrong way: Truck driver charged over Hume Highway incident

UPDATE: Police have charged a 64-year-old Shepparton truck driver with six offences, including two counts of conduct endangering life, after he was eventually stopped while allegedly driving a semi-trailer on the wrong side of the Hume Freeway in Campbellfield.

Early Wednesday morning, police received a number of reports of the truck travelling south towards the city from Donnybrook Road at Craigieburn in the north-bound lanes of the freeway.

The driver has also been charged with driving in a manner dangerous and driving while impaired, after returning a positive drug test.

Fawkner Highway Patrol will await the results of blood analysis to determine if additional charges will be laid.

The man has been bailed to appear in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on June 23.
