Bubbly Stephanie Cosmano speaks passionately about her love for the flute – and One Direction’s Harry Styles.
Like her boy band idol, the 13-year-old from Fawkner has been singing since she was a toddler.
She also plays piano and hopes to make it into Melbourne Youth Music’s ensemble program next year to fine-tune her skills.
To be selected for the program, a small group of young musicians face two rounds of auditions and must have exemplary Australian Music Examinations Board exam results. Stephanie was selected for the 2015 program and had such a good time she hopes to make the ensemble again.
“I made new friends and connected with people who play other instruments,” she said.
She hopes the experience will further her chances of a career as a musician – and perhaps even rival Styles’ fame one day.
“Mum said I always sang when I was little,” Stephanie said. “Music has always been my everything.”
The not-for-profit Melbourne Youth Music organisation has been around since 1967 and is dedicated to “enriching young lives through the power of music”.
Applications for the ensemble program close October 16.
The program runs from February to November next year.
