A partnership has been formed between Whittlesea council and early-parenting educators Tweedle to help new parents adjust to life with a baby.

Tweedle is expanding its parenting day-stay program to the municipality, offering families intensive support.

The program is already run at Footscray, Geelong, Maribyrnong, Brimbank and Bacchus Marsh.

Tweedle community programs manager LeAnn Williams says ‘day-stay’ offers parents support and guidance around issues of sleep, settling, feeding, routines, attachment and family wellbeing.

The program is also aimed at helping parents and babies get to know each other better and feel secure together.

Ms Williams says the day-stay program is being run in Whittlesea because of strong demand for such a service.

“This is the first early parenting day-stay program in the area,” she said.

“Tweedle’s programs are underpinned by the importance of attachment and the stable, responsive and nurturing relationships that build the architecture of a baby’s brain.

“Babies and children learn best when they feel safe, calm, protected and nurtured by care- givers.”

The program will be run from Mill Park’s Centenary Drive Maternal and Child Health Centre each Friday by a registered nurse from Tweedle and a council early-childhood professional.

Four families will be given the chance to take part in the program each week. Open to families with children up to 12 months old, the program starts on Friday, September 9.
