Having a solo exhibition is a benchmark of success for an artist. For many, getting there can take years or decades.
For Massimo Gamboni, it took just 15 years. The Marymede Catholic College year 9 student has spent the past three months drawing cartoons about one of his passions – filmmaking.
His black-and-white cartoons, installed in light boxes, wittily chronicle the filmmaking process.
The South Morang resident says he’s been drawing since he can remember.
“I just like putting what you love down on paper,” he said.
After he finishes school, he hopes to study animation at university, and he dreams of a job at California-based computer animation company Pixar.
Gamboni counts a number of Pixar films, including Toy Story and Wall-E, among his favourites.
The Stages of Filmmaking, a Comical Take at the Making of Movies will be at EDGE Services for Young People, Shop MM1, Westfield Plenty Valley, Mill Park, from December 3.
