Artist Samantha Lentini says she’s rendered spellbound by Aboriginal dot paintings – and it shows in her work.
The Greenvale resident’s paintings use strong lines and series of dots that express her appreciation for the Indigenous painting technique.
“I generally paint what I feel, but I’ve always been fascinated by Aboriginal dot work,” the 25-year-old says.
Ms Lentini will exhibit her work for the first time this month at the Gee Lee-Wik Doleen Gallery, at Craigieburn’s Hume Global Learning Centre.
Her exhibition follows a successful 2015, when she received a Hume arts award.
Not only does Ms Lentini paint and draw, she runs an online clothing business and works part-time as a stylist for Sussan.
Hume mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou described the artist as an extremely creative and talented woman.
“Her artwork embodies wonderful patterns and spectacular colours, and the paintings and drawings will impress people of all ages.”
Ms Lentini graduated from RMIT University in 2012 with a bachelor of design (fashion) and since then has worked continuously as a freelance artist.
Beginnings is at the Gee Lee-Wik Doleen Gallery from Thursday, March 10, until Sunday, May 8.
