Festival to celebrate Hume’s senior residents

The contribution to the Hume community by elderly residents will be recognised during the Hume Seniors’ Festival later this month.

Organised by the council, the free festival aims to recognise older people living in Hume.

The event will feature an exercise demonstration by seniors from Dallas’s Lynda Blundell Senior Citizen Centre, who are part of a Hume Active Lifestyle Program, while retro revivalists Smokin’ Wingtips and crooner Dean Sands are among the lineup of entertainers.

Visitors to the festival can also pick up tips on gardening, recycling and how to keep safe, while community groups will be on hand to provide advice about the activities and services on offer to seniors. The event is part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, which has more than 1500 events across the state this month.

Housing, Disability and Ageing Minister Martin Foley said the Victorian Seniors’ Festival was an opportunity for older Victorians to join in an array of social and cultural activities.

Free public transport will be available to seniors cardholders until October 9.

The Hume Seniors’ Festival is on October 28, 10.30am-2.30pm, at the Lynda Blundell Senior Citizen Centre, 185-225 Blair Street, Dallas.
