Cool for kids at Craigieburn expo

Children are expected to flock to the Craigieburn Leisure Centre on Sunday for the annual Hume council Active Kids Expo.

The event, part of the council’s Children’s Week celebrations, will include free rides and activities, sports displays, live music by bands Cover Me and No Alibi, and an art and craft market.

There will also be visits from Elmo, the Ninja Turtles and Frozen’s Elsa.

The expo will be held at 127-147 Craigieburn Road, from noon-4pm.

Haunted house

Enter Craigieburn’s Halloween haunted house if you dare. Owner Rob Pugliese has transformed his garage and backyard into a clowns’ playground in honour of the spooky night. Mr Pugliese has been working on his haunted house all year, building props and rigging lighting to create a scary atmosphere. He chose the clown theme because he believes scary clowns are a favourite Halloween costume for many people. The haunted house is open on Monday, October 31, 6.30-10.30pm. Soccer at twilight

Do you work in Hume? Then grab your workmates and form a team to take part in Hume council’s twilight soccer tournament. The social soccer 5s’ mixed competition is from 5.30pm on Thursday, October 27, at ABD stadium, John Ilhan Memorial Reserve, Barry Road, Broadmeadows. Matches kick-off at 6pm to be followed by dinner and networking. Registration essential by Sunday, October 23.

Children’s day

Children and families can enjoy a jam-packed day on Wednesday, October 26, at Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre, 41-85 Tanderrum Way, Broadmeadows, from 9.30am. There will be drumming, bell dancing, games, story- telling and a visit from a vintage fire truck. Lunch provided.

Seniors’ special day

Hume council will celebrate the municipality’s elderly residents during the annual Hume Seniors’ Festival on Friday, October 28, at the Lynda Blundell Senior Citizen Centre, 185-225 Blair Street, Dallas, from 10.30am. Find out about the services and activities available to senior residents while also picking up gardening and recycling tips. There will be performances from retro band, Smokin’ Wingtips and entertainer Dean Sands.

Bulla’s Alister Clark Memorial Garden will be in full bloom when the gates open to the public on Saturday, October 22,
from 10am-3.30pm. The community garden features the only complete collection of Alister Clark roses open to

Stir the cultural melting pot
