Known for having the best applied learning educators in the state, Peter Lalor Vocational College in Lalor is a modern trade school specialising in hands-on applied learning.

Principal Rod Sheehan says the school focuses solely on preparing students for the world of work – apprenticeships, traineeships and employment – as well as further education.

“The college is unique,” he says, “in exclusively offering the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at years 10-12 levels. We also have a year 9 hands-on program.”

“And our teachers have combined expertise in both curriculum and student wellbeing. We … take pride in our ability to tailor the learning environment to suit … each student.”

Mr Sheehan says the college’s approach is strongly driven by building authentic relationships with students.

“We have adopted a wellbeing-centred approach to meet the needs of individual students.”

The college is much more than a school,
 Mr Sheehan continues.

“We’re also a Community Learning Hub sharing our facilities with a Community Garden, Men’s Shed, Community Kitchen, International School and other community organisations – all of which enrich our … environment.”

“A fully functioning hair and beauty salon and commercial kitchen are on campus, plus we also house Outer Northern Trade Training Centre which specialises in building and construction training courses.”

“We’ve built strong relationships with industry and training and apprenticeship groups, all providing a fast track into employment for many of our students.”

Enrolments for next year are now open.
