Assumption College Kilmore’s undefeated firsts football team has taken out the 2021 Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria (AGSV) Premiership.

Despite an interrupted season due to COVID restrictions and lockdowns, Assumption’s Firsts Football team maintained a comprehensive training schedule for players, ensuring the team as a whole was prepared for the year ahead.

Assumption maintained a seven-match winning streak to secure its status of undefeated premiers for the season.

The team was led by captain Darcy Stewart and vice-captain Steele Simpson.

“This year’s … side ensured Assumption College Kilmore continued their tradition of having a stronghold on the competition,” principal Kate Fogarty said

“No matter the restrictions and conditions, the team worked together, changing routines to ensure they were both mentally and physically fit to play.

Since joining the list of AGSV football teams in 1958, Assumption College has won 38 Premierships.

“Assumption College has a longstanding reputation for sports excellence – a diverse sports program built on the foundation of rich history and tradition,” Ms Fogarty said.

“We have a rich footballing history with many well-known AFL and VFL players have come through these doors. Past students include Neale Daniher, Francis Bourke, Billy Brownless, Peter McCormack, Peter Crimmins and Shane Crawford, to name just a few.”

Darcy said: “It was a very difficult season coming in and out of lockdown, not knowing if we would play the next week or not. All of the team really pulled through when it mattered and the results showed that.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the boys and how far we’ve come. As a graduating year 12 student, I’m really going to miss pulling on the Assumption jersey, but this is great way to end my time with the team.”
