Advocating for equality for over 42 years

ADEC is a not-for-profit organisation that has been serving Victorians since 1982.

Established by the organisation’s ambassador Effie Meehan, ADEC aims to help people with disabilities or those who are elderly, along with their caregivers and families. ADEC specialises in supporting people who come from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds.

ADEC offers the following services:

* Disability Support: ADEC provides services to help individuals with disabilities live safely at home and be part of their community. Staff work closely with clients to understand their personal needs, language preferences, cultural backgrounds, and living situations. ADEC support staff are sensitive to different cultures and can assist with personal care, community activities, and household tasks.

* Aged Care Services: ADEC offers support to help you continue living in your own home for as long as possible. Services include Home Care Packages, the Commonwealth Home Support Program, and Specialist Support Services. These services help with personal care, community access, household support, and buying necessary items and equipment for

clients with Home Care Packages.

* Community Services: The Community Services Department focuses on improving the skills and knowledge of diverse communities. ADEC provide free Capacity Building workshops on various topics like the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), mental health, general well-being, human rights, and more. There is also a language-specific Social

Support Groups that meet monthly to provide information, peer support, and recreational activities. Additionally, staff assist with NDIS Appeals and Reviews, as well as with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) appeals.

* Advocacy Support: ADEC offer a free Advocacy Support Program to help people understand their rights, access information and services, and advocate for their needs. Advocacy support staff can help you identify issues, define what you want to achieve, and create an advocacy plan.
