Meet Mernda artist Jarrod Grech

Mernda artist Jarrod Grech can often be found creating paintings of some of Whittlesea’s most eye-catching landscapes.

How long have you lived in Whittlesea?

I have lived in Whittlesea for four years.

What do you like about where you live?

The thing I like most about Whittlesea is there are plenty of great landscapes within walking distance or short drive from my home.

What, if anything, would you like to change?

If I could change anything it would be adding a hospital [closer to Mernda].

How long have you been painting landscapes and what inspired you to do it?

I started painting around 12 months ago after one of my closest friends passed away in early 2017. It was a wake-up call for me not to waste my talent and to turn a negative into a positive. It was always my intention to find some skill with portraits and move into painting landscapes when I felt I was ready. I drive past amazing landscapes every day in Whittlesea that I envision painting so it made sense.

How do you choose what to paint?

I look for eye-catching landscapes that have lots of detail, great lighting and are recognisable.

What has been your favourite place to
paint?

So far my favourite place I have painted is Wollert/Epping quarry – I have completed three landscapes.

Are you planning on exhibiting your work?

I plan on exhibiting my work locally after I complete 12 landscapes and then approaching a gallery to also exhibit my work.

Where is your favourite local place to spend time?

My favourite local place to spend time is the Growling Frog Golf Course.
