Mick Streiff and Pas Sciulli were already legends to many at the Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows Cricket Club . . . now they have the official title to go with it.
The two were named inaugural club legends at a hall of fame ceremony on Sunday, when the club honoured its greatest First, Second,Third and Fourth XI Victorian Sub‐District Cricket Association teams and its greatest North West Metropolitan Cricket Association team.
The club also inducted 11 past or current players and committee members into the Falcons’ inaugural hall of fame.
Two of those inducted, Streiff and Sciulli, were then promoted to legend status.
Streiff, who played more than 270 games for the Falcons, was named in the Second and Fourths teams and was named captain of the Fourth XI.
“It’s recognition for years of hard work,” Streiff said about the awards.
“Most of the years have been on the committee and mostly as president or secretary.
“You put a lot of hard work into it.
“The votes have come from people I respect around the club. I respect them and I’m glad to have them respect me for the amount of work I’ve put in.”
The night was a good one for the Streiffs, with Mick’s son, Mitch, named in the greatest First XI.
“Glenda [his wife] has always supported me and our son,” Streiff said.
“We’ve made lots of friends at the club and we’ve sort have grown up there. It’s been our life in summer.
“Mitch has been loyal to the club. He could have gone and played elsewhere and did get offers.
“To watch him develop and get his first 100 last year was special.”
Sciulli was shocked to be made a legend of the club.
His greatest contribution to the club was his work as secretary when the two clubs, Roxburgh Park and Broadmeadows merged.
“I’m very proud and a little humbled,” Sciulli said.
“The other names of the candidates are people I hold in the highest regard.
“It was a surprise to be nominated to start with. There are others who have made bigger contributions to the club who could have been recognised.”
Sciulli, Streiff, current club president Ben Wood and Ian Hudson were unanimous inductees into the hall of fame.
They were joined by Ian Lynch, Geoff Turner, Steve Goodwin, David Lawson, Bruce Sykes, Mark Leehane and Ben Rose.
Leehane was named captain of the First XI, with Jody Hutchinson named vice‐captain.
