Car hits police van Lalor

Two men have been arrested after they ram raided a police van just after midnight this morning in Lalor.

A marked police van was attempting to pull over a car following reports that it may have been stolen when they hit from behind by another vehicle while parked in Huskisson Avenue.

Acting Sergeant Rhonda Coates said the two police officers were patrolling the area about 12.40am on Thursday morning before the incident.

Both cars sustained extensive damage.

“The two officers ended up in hospital to be checked out,” Acting Sergeant Coates said. They have since been released.

She said one of the men in the car was arrested on the scene while the other was arrested nearby with the assistance of the canine squad.

One of the them sustained minor injuries and is awaiting treatment at Northern Hospital under police guard.

A 25-year-old Bundoora man has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 May, charged with reckless conduct endangering life and traffic and drugs related charges.

A 24-year-old Coolaroo man remains under police guard in hospital and has yet to be interviewed.
