Hume kids urged to book it in

Children in the City of Hume are being encouraged to join kids like Hannah (pictured) and lose themselves in a book – or 20 – as part of Hume council’s summer reading club.

Prizes including Samsung tablets, Lego, board games and book vouchers are on offer for youngsters up to 17 who complete a reading record, available from libraries and online.

There’s a range of categories for different age groups.

Mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou says the theme of this summer’s challenge, which ends January 31, is lost worlds.

‘‘Stories can inspire and teach new skills, and they also help us escape to somewhere completely different,’’ she says.
