Whittlesea is seeking players for its under-16 teams this coming season. The team will be coached by Calder Cannons development coach Aaron Newport. Diamond Creek is looking for juniors and players for its women’s team, while Eltham, Laurimar juniors, Warringal Hawks and Watsonia are also seeking players. Details visit nfl.org.au

Mernda may be without captain Rohan Davies for much of the 2014 season. Davies, winner of last season’s division two best-and-fairest, has joined the army and may miss a sizeable chunk of Mernda’s campaign because of his duties, although it’s unclear how many games.

PREMIER Cricket

Greenvale lost outright to Monash Tigers in a low-scoring second XI game. Bowled out for 97 on day one, Greenvale lost first innings points as Monash posted 125. Sent in to bat again on Saturday the Kangaroos could manage only 81 before Monash made 4/54 from 16 overs.

Premier Cricket

Greenvale’s third XI also suffered a large outright loss against Monash. The Tigers needed to bat only once and posted 6-243 after being sent in last Saturday. Greenvale managed 98 in its first innings and was then bowled out for just 65 in the second innings, lasting only 25.3 overs.
