DVCA: Bundoora still has part to play

Bundoora will miss finals in the Diamond Valley Cricket Association’s Barclay Shield, but can still make life difficult for finals-bound Rosanna.

In what was most like Bundoora’s last batting innings for the season, skipper Andrew Fairchild notched his fourth half-century with 54 not out on the first day of the match on Saturday.

Starts for Harjinder Singh Chahal (33) and opener Jason Nicholas (31) ensured a positive start for Bundoora.

But, apart from Fairchild’s defiant knock, the innings slowly crumbled from then on Bundoora was all out for 162.

Rosanna then faced one Jason Kaminski over to close the day on 0/2.

Bundoora’s second XI, also missing finals, is chasing Rosanna’s 219 for victory.

After an amazing start, in which Brad Byrne snared three quick wickets to reduce Rosanna to 3-19, Bundoora lost control as Rosanna’s middle order took the advantage.

Byrne was the standout for Bundoora, sending down 24.1 overs and taking 6/71.

Bundoora faced three overs before stumps, and lost the wicket of Steve Young for a duck.

The side was 1-4 at stumps.
