OLYMPIC CHALLENGE

View some highlights from past Winter Olympics and test your knowledge of the event at this fun-filled Winter Olympics trivia session. Featuring skiing winners and ice-skating champions, it promises to be a cool night laced with interesting and enlightening facts. Starts 6.30pm on Thursday, February 6, at Lalor library, May Road, Lalor. Free.

IT’S ALL HAPPENING

Hume & Northern Happenings – a social group for northern suburbs people in their 40s and 50s – has many social functions each fortnight, including dinner dances, tenpin bowling and day trips. The group is calling for new members this year.

THE END OF SUMMER

Children can celebrate the conclusion of the Summer Reading Club with Oh, The Places We Can Go! – an interactive show from Carp Productions. Go on a journey around the world, march with the Queen’s guards, row down the River Nile and meet a scary dragon. On Thursday, January 23, at 11am, Thomastown library, 52 Main Street, Thomastown.

AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE

There are plenty of features and activities for families at the Australia Day awards and celebrations – among them, free face painting and an art tent, a baby animal farm, and live music from the legendary Ross Wilson (formerly of Daddy Cool) and the Peaceniks. So bring your Australian flag, a hamper for a picnic and a rug, and settle in for a great night of free entertainment, which will finish with fireworks. It’s on Sunday, January 26, at Terrace Lawns, Whittlesea council offices, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang.
