Bowls Victoria: Bundoora RSL win, but lose ground

Bundoora RSL posted an impressive win but still lost ground on second-placed Moonee Ponds in Bowls Victoria premier division on Saturday.

Bundoora beat Melbourne 16-76 to 2-71 to hold third (98 points), but Moonee Ponds’ sweep of Essendon meant the second-placed team opened the gap (104) as both chase ladder leader Brighton (111).

Luke Aiello was Bundoora’s biggest rink winner, 24-13 against Melbourne’s Paul Williamson.

Damon Di Florio won 19-18 against Michael Wilks and Nick McIntyre 15-13 against Russell Green, while Melbourne’s only rink win came via Brett Leighton 27-18 against Ian Ewing.

Bundoora RSL will play at ladder leader Brighton’s home this weekend.

In division 2, section 2, Broadmeadows extended its big lead at the top of the league with a 16-96 to 2-57 win against second-placed West Coburg.

Broadmeadows (113) is now streaking clear of West Coburg (87) and Lalor-2 (86).

In division 2, section 3, Craigieburn slipped to eighth on the table after a 16-84 to 2-68 loss against Rosanna.

Craigieburn is still above Darebin City (47) and Lalor-3 (30).
