Jason Mill combines his passion for acting with his day job as a secondary school performing arts teacher at Roxburgh College.
He will perform as a small-time gambler, Benny Southstreet, in the CLOC Musical Theatre’s production of Guys and Dolls, a romantic comedy set in New York in the 1940s.
“My role is a two-bit gambler. I don’t like gambling, but I do love performing,” says Mill, pictured with other cast members Scott Hili (playing Nathan Detroit) and Michael Butler (Nicely, Nicely Johnson).
“I come from a performing family. I was first on stage at the age of six and performed in two operas when I was 15. After school I was a dancer with Disney Productions and appeared in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan in special- event performances before returning to Australia to complete teacher training.”
Mill, 33, has scored small parts in television’s Neighbours and Blue Heelers, as well as in commercials.
Guys and Dolls will be at The National Theatre, St Kilda, from this Friday to October 19.
