A-class recycled water for Craigieburn, Epping North

Craigieburn and Epping North households will soon have access to A-class recycled water for washing clothes, watering gardens and even cleaning cars without tapping into drinking water supplies.

A $5 million recycled water storage tank at Mount Ridley will be commissioned by Yarra Valley Water later this month and, with the capacity to hold 10 megalitres, it will also be able to supply the Kalkallo area in future.

YVW managing director Tony Kelly said recycled water services helped safeguard fresh water supplies for their best use: drinking.

“Melbourne has only recently seen the tail end of very problematic drought and bushfire conditions,” Mr Kelly said.

“By offering recycled water services to customers, we’re able to ensure that gardens can be kept green and cars kept clean throughout summer.”

Construction crews are finalising the tank’s electrics, while also filling it to capacity to ensure that it is free of
leaks.

“Trees and plants love Class-A recycled water as much as they do rainwater or drinking water,” Mr Kelly said.
