Lalor Secondary College gears up for golden reunion

There’s plenty to honour 50 years after the above ditty became the unofficial anthem of the first secondary school in the city of Whittlesea.

Lalor Secondary College celebrates its 50th anniversary next month and plans have been hatched for a carnival and community day on Saturday, October 19, followed by a gala dinner the same evening at the Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre.

The call has gone out for former students, parents and teachers to join in and see just how things have grown and changed since the early days.

One thing that won’t have changed, just “matured”, are the friendly faces of the school’s office stalwarts.

Glenys Williams, who started at the school in 1976, these days helps students fit their new uniforms, usually accompanied by parents she kitted out for their school days.

Five former principals have said they will be back for the big day, including 90-year-old “Mr Muir”, who took up his post in 1963.

» Tickets for the 50th-anniversary dinner are available from the website www.trybooking.com/58599 or people can sign in via www.facebook.com/lalorsecondarycollege. Call Glenys Williams on 0408 552 216.
