THREE people died on roads in Whittlesea over summer in a horrific start to the year’s road toll.
Last week, the statewide road toll stood at 53 for the year – up more than 30 per cent from 38 deaths at the same time last year.
Since November last year, three people have died on Whittlesea roads and 35 people have been seriously injured – six injuries were life-threatening.
The fatalities included:
● An 80-year-old Mill Park man who was killed when his car hit a rock embankment in Greensborough on November 8;
● An 18-year-old Mill Park teenager died and his female passenger suffered serious head injuries when his car came off the road in Lower Plenty on January 23.
Also, in nearby suburbs four people died on the roads including:
● A 23-year-old Templestowe man who was killed in a collison where eight others were injured on November 1 in Kangaroo Ground;
● A 93-year-old man died when his car crashed into a pole in Ivanhoe on January 27.
