My Voice: Rob Harvey

Rob Harvey, Secretary of the Thomastown-Whittlesea Greens.

WHAT moved me from being a voter to a member of a political party was the thought of providing a voice for others, and my fears for the environment.

I’m worried about brown coal mining. I see those pictures of countries such as Hong Kong where they have to wear face masks because the air’s so bad. I hope it never gets like that here.

I live in Lalor but my mother’s family were from the country, and as a child I spent a lot of time on gorgeous beaches in the fresh air.

I would hate it if the only place we could see a hairy nosed wombat was in a museum.

I have two children aged three months and three years. I do have concerns for them. I don’t want to go down the alarmist road but there are concerns that if we don’t change our carbon-emitting ways our planet will be in trouble.

We won’t be here but our kids will, and we have a real responsibility to them.

The Thomastown-Whittlesea Greens meet at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each month at Thomastown Library, Main Street, Thomastown. All welcome.
