Year 12 student Kellie MacNaughton lives in Mernda and attends St Monica’s College in Epping.
Her dad drives her to school in the morning, a 30-minute trip which gets her to school 45 minutes early.
In the afternoon she faces a two-bus trip of up to an hour to get home.
With the new station, she will catch a bus to South Morang and then a train to Epping, and return the same way, cutting her return trip time by half.
She’ll miss the comfort of her dad’s car in the morning but says it will be worth it.
“I enjoy my independence, and I don’t want to get to school so early,” she says.
