Winter warning on fire risk

AS temperatures plummet and heaters are turned on, the CFA is warning residents about the increased risk of house fires.

“Winter is one of the highest risk periods for residential fires, and many of these incidents can be avoided,” CFA Leading Firefighter Gary Andison said.

“Check all heaters, and if you have an open fire, sweep the chimney annually.

Don’t dry clothes too close to heaters, turn off electric blankets once you get into bed, and check your home has working smoke alarms.”
