South Morang residents raise fight

THE battle over the proposed nine-storey residential development in South Morang has intensified, with a petition to Whittlesea council objecting to the project.

The Friends of South Morang claim the Plenty Road development, near the Commercial Hotel, would bring in up to 1500 residents and further clog the already “seriously congested” roads.

The 135-name petition stated concerns that barking dogs and loud music from the development would disrupt what is a quiet neighbourhood.

They also said that in the event of a fire, 1500 people trying to evacuate the development would pose a risk to motorists and affect the access of emergency services.

Residents said they feared that approving the project would encourage similar developments.

Cr Mary Lalios presented the petition to council last month.
