South Morang handyman starts chemicals drama

A CHEMICAL spill in South Morang wrongly blamed on a drug lab was caused by a home handyman, police say.

Inspector Bob Dykstra said two paramedics were overcome by fumes when called to a house in Arrowgrass Street about 1pm on June 25.

He said despite reports the paramedics became ill after exposure to a methamphetamine chemical leak at a drug lab, they had been exposed to a solvent used in fibreglass.

He said a neighbour had been using a solvent and emptied the remains on his garden. Rain

washed the solvent into the water table, under the fence and under the slab of the neighbour’s house.

No one had been charged, he said.
