Whittlesea’s Lavender Ladies sing away winter blues

They call themselves the Lavender Ladies, but their aim is to make the winter blues disappear with song.

The Whittlesea singers, wearing their trademark lavender hats and scarves, bring all the old tunes to people in nursing homes.

‘‘You get back in smiles what you give out in song,’’ said group organiser Denise Verbeeten.

‘‘Two old gents came up and told us they couldn’t wait to see us each week.’’

Performing at the TLC Sunlight Residential Age Care centre last week, they had the usual song requests.

‘‘They never get tired of Danny Boy,’’ Ms Verbeeten said.

The group of about a dozen singers performs three times a week around the municipality.
