Bundoora’s Parade College has rebuilt its front fence and gates using material from its original school in East Melbourne.
The school saved iron fencing and other material from the original site several years ago, storing it until the design for the gates was finished this year.
Bluestone was also used to reflect the material used in the old school 140 years ago. School spokeswoman Julie Dwyer said the project reflected Parade’s motto Tenete Traditiones, Latin for Hold Fast The Traditions.
“While the college facilities today are second to none and very much part of the 21st century, we still embrace the history and traditions of our original site where the four founding brothers set up the school in 1871,” she said.
