The Good Ship

O’ Exquisite Corpse

Rousing Brisbane troublemakers The Good Ship follow up their 2010 debut Avast! Wretched Sea with another rollicking dose of saucy sea shanties, clap-happy country and filthy-minded cabaret on sophomore effort O’ Exquisite Corpse. If the album eases in with opening track Ghost Ship, the crazily catchy Powder Monkey ramps things up before the outrageous lyrics of Grenfell (too unsafe for work to be printed here). All in good spirit, it’ll have you foot-stomping and flirting while sloshing beer all over yourself. What I’m Trying To Say runs with hilarious rhyming couplets including, “If you were George W/I’d be Obama/if you were Pearl Jam/than I’d be Nirvana”. Regular Melbourne giggers, the Ship are outstanding live, and translate that raw energy on record too. It’s perfect for avasting me hearties half-drunk in their lounge rooms all over the land.
