THE Whittlesea Agricultural Society Show has scored a coup – attracting world champion axemen to compete for a premium Victorian woodchopping title.
For the first time, the Whittlesea show will host the 325mm underhand Victorian title event.
According to the secretary of the Victoria Axemen’s Council, Eloise Meyers, the event is “like the Melbourne Cup of woodchopping”. “There is only one event for the 325mm or 13-inch underhand title and Whittlesea has it,” she said. “World champion Laurence O’Toole (Jnr) will be fighting to reclaim his Victorian title after last year’s surprise dead-heat with fellow Victorian David McIntosh.”
Mrs Meyers said the show had attracted the cream of axemen.
“There’s Australian Champion David McIntosh, Australian women’s team members, members of the top-ranked Victorian and Australian under-21 sides and back-to-back junior champion Brayden Meyer,” she said.
The Whittlesea Agricultural Society Show will be at the Whittlesea showgrounds on November 3 and 4.
