Andrea Williams is overjoyed to be in the business of making friends with strangers. The volunteer Do Care worker has spent 11 years visiting elderly people to brighten their days.
“I get more out of it than they do – I love the company,” she says. Mrs Williams, 64, is enjoying a new friendship with Margaret Chander, 82, of Mill Park.
“I love the company of older people. I like their stories,” she said. The pair meets once a week for lunch or an outing. Do Care, which is part of Wesley Mission, needs volunteers in Epping, Bundoora, Lalor and Doreen, according to spokeswoman Imogen Baratta.
“All that’s required is one to two hours a week of conversation and friendship,” she says.
