SCOUTS Australia is in a knot forming a group for juniors in Mernda. There are plenty of children wanting to join a group for Scout Joeys, aged six to eight, and Cubs, aged eight to 11 — all they need is a leader.
Scout district commissioner Lynne Hoare said 60 children wanted to join but they needed adults to volunteer as leaders.
Mrs Hoare said leaders could “job share”, cutting the commitment down to once a fortnight for an hour for Joeys and 90 minutes for Cubs.
“We need adults that want to see children do well; that’s the pay cheque, watching children develop. The Joeys’ motto is ‘care and share’ and we help them learn to co-operate and look after each other and their community. The Cubs’ motto is ‘do your best’ and they learn numerous skills and earn badges which shows them that people have different interests, and that’s a good thing.”
