Fearful neighbours win reprieve as Lalor rooming house tenants told to leave

LALOR residents fed up with a rooming house amid allegations of violent clashes have won a reprieve.

The landlord has ordered the private company that rents the Monash Street property out within four months. He said he sympathised with residents who claim to be fearful of the tenants, after allegations of bad behaviour and police attendance over about four years.

Frank, who would not give his surname or name the company renting the property, said he had instructed his real estate agent to serve the company with an eviction notice but the company had 120 days to get out.

Councillor Kris Pavlidis, who presented council with a petition with dozens of names complaining about the rooming house, said council had no control over rooming houses, except to issue a certificate of occupancy and ensure they meet health standards.
