A NEW organisation will help those who help others in their roles as community leaders in Whittlesea.
The group will train and mentor community leaders to guide groups that represent the multicultural northern suburbs, according to spokesman Glen Wall.
Mr Wall said the Whittlesea Community Leadership Network would launch on Monday, February 25 after two years of community consultation.
“The initial programs to be offered aim at improving the skills of community group leaders to connect with their own community groups and the wider community,” he said.
“This includes training support, access to resources and sharing of knowledge to support the leaders of recently formed community groups representing the wide range of cultures including leaders of young people, women and families.”
Mr Wall said 117 community groups and individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds had helped form CLN.
The elected members of the management committee included leaders from such groups as Chinese Community of Victoria, Congolese community, Tamil Association and an Iranian women’s group.
But many other groups, including the Whittlesea Chinese Association, Sikh community, An Lac Hanh Vietnamese Buddhist Temple, a Vietnamese women’s group and Sierra Leone community, had helped form the network, he said.
Mr Wall said the network was a City of Whittlesea initiative co-ordinated by its multicultural unit.
Whittlesea mayor, councillor Rex Griffin, will launch the network on Monday, February 25 at 7pm at the council offices, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang. Details: whittleseacln.org.au.
