Epping high-rise plan cut short

WHITTLESEA council has refused a plan for a 17-storey development including apartments, retail premises, offices, gym and a childcare centre in High Street, Epping.

Developer Pelligra Holdings was considering an appeal, project manager Ruben Fuentes said.

The development, valued at tens of millions of dollars, was a new concept where people could live, work, shop and more, Mr Fuentes said. He believed the idea would be embraced by the outer suburban fringe over 15 to 20 years.

“With the urban sprawl, we have to start going upwards to accommodate Melbourne’s population growth.”

There were 12 objections to the development – including that it was too tall and too high-density for the area.

An officer’s report to the council stated that it was mandatory for the council to refuse the development because it had been declined by VicRoads. VicRoads was seeking more information about traffic treatment.
