Primary school students including Mikayla Bett (pictured) from Lalor Primary School were spellbound at the Lalor North College spelling bee last week. The college’s year 7 students organised a spelling bee for four Lalor primary schools as part of its program to promote literacy. Assistant principal Elizabeth Morihovitis says grade 5 and 6 students from Lalor North, Lalor East, Lalor and Lalor Gardens primary schools took part. “Students only get to compete in sport, this was an opportunity for students to compete academically,” she says. Lalor Gardens Primary School won the final heat with 560 points followed closely by Lalor Primary School on 540 points.
