Giulia Mammarella’s mission to raise funds for cancer research was spurred by the fight of her little brother Samual, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 1992 at the age of five.
“For three years he battled stronger than anyone I have or probably will ever know,” she says.
Having undergone chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant, Samual eventually lost his battle after being diagnosed with stage four leukemia – two days after his eighth birthday.
“Words can’t describe the profound effect this had on my parents, other brother and me. At that point I decided and knew that I had to do something more.”
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is Mammarella’s way of helping the Cancer Council.
Last year she raised more than $1200, and wants to “top that figure” this year.
Mammarella will host a lunch at her restaurant – Plenty Valley Woodfire Pizza.
